SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINE THE MASK John 8:36 and Colossians 2:13-15 Oh, the nails they drove into His hands should have been through mine. And the blood He shed that day should have been mine. And the cross they nailed Him to- oh that was my cross. The death He died to pay the price should have been mine. I guess all along, I always knew I was wrong. The life I lived was just the way I sung the song. But deep inside, I knew I lived a lie a nd I wore a mask to hide my shame. I fooled them all with a smile I found one day, then a King took the mask away. I stood before Him and He looked right into my life and He saw me; He knew just where I had been, and I bowed my head because I knew He saw it all. My whole life was there to see. So there I was, guilty before Him, and I waited and watched to see what He would say. And He said, “Forgiven.” He forgave me--a brand new start, a brand new heart He gave. He gave to me a second chance to make this life what it should be, and even though He saw what I had been, He looked beyond it. Now I know and now I see what it is to be free. The cross they nailed Him to that was my cross. To be forgiven, yes, I know. The death He died to pay my price should have been mine. I know. This I know. This I know. Should have been mine, should have been mine, should have been Yes, I know. I know. mine, should have been mine, should have been mine. | So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he too it away, nailing it to the cross.
