TACKLE BOX MINISTRY Fishers Of Men: Creative methods to reach an ever-changing world with an uncompromising message that never changes.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers; Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting their net into the lake, for they were fisherman. “Come follow me”, Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:18-20
Did you ever wonder why Jesus called fisherman to follow Him?

I think Jesus had this in mind when He said, “…I will make you fishers of men”. What if his words actually
caused those fisherman to consider ways to use their fishing techniques to reach people for Jesus? Think
about it. Jesus never does anything randomly, so perhaps He was intentionally trying to get them to see
that reaching people is similar to the way they use those “fisherman skills” to have the best catch.
My dad used to take us surf fishing when I was growing up. At
low tide, we would take a boat ride to a secluded beach out in
the middle of nowhere and fish until high tide. To a 12-year-old
boy, the fishing equipment was made up of fishing rods that
were as tall as the trees I climbed, with reels attached to it that
seemed to be able to pull in a battle ship if we had to. The hook
we used was the same size as my arm and our “bait bucket”
consisted of fish that were of a size that most fisherman would
like to catch. We would cut them up and used them for bait.
Dad didn’t come to catch a one or two pound fish; he had his
sights set on channel bass-mammoth channel bass, so that’s
what he came geared up to catch. And that’s exactly what he
did. One year he won a fishing contest with a 42-pound channel
bass. His tackle box however had more in it than fishing gear for
those big bass. We had fishing gear for almost any type of salt-
water fish known to mankind. We were ready for any type of
fish at any time.
